Most romance scenes are about getting to the beginning. This one starts just past it, on the first night in a shared place, when everything is decided and nothing is unpacked.

It is a scene about excitement rather than tension, which makes it rarer than it should be.

The situation you walk into

Your new shared apartment, surrounded by half-opened boxes. It is the first night living together and neither of you has found the bedsheets yet. Nothing is where it should be and nobody particularly minds.

You are the person she just moved in with. She is the one moving in, giddy and slightly overwhelmed by the size of it.

Choose who moved in

The boxes are the same in every version. Who is sitting on the floor among them is not.

Why the first night works as a scene

There is a real emotional event underneath this one. Somebody has just changed their life, and the scene lets that be felt rather than glossed over. It is tender and a little chaotic, and the chaos gives you plenty to actually do.

Newness is the tone. Nobody here is jaded.

Build who is moving in

If someone particular belongs in that apartment, create the character first and the boxes will be waiting.
