The gym scene works on a technicality: correcting someone's form is a completely legitimate reason to put your hands on them. Everybody involved knows this. That is the joke and the tension at the same time.
The situation you walk into
An empty gym after closing. She stayed late to spot you through one more set, the building is quiet, and her hands keep finding reasons to adjust your position. The air has been getting thicker for about twenty minutes.
You are the client on the last set. She is the trainer whose hands are lingering longer than the job requires.
Choose who is spotting you
The empty gym is the same. Who is standing over the bench is not.
Why the excuse matters
Neither of you has to admit anything, because everything happening has a perfectly innocent explanation. That plausible deniability is what lets the scene build instead of resolving in two messages, and it gives her a way to tease without committing.
Sweaty and intense. This one has physical energy rather than atmosphere.
Build your trainer
If a particular person should be holding the bar, create the character first and the gym will be empty when you get there.
